A Time to Relax!

Image
Yesteryear's band Byrd, rightfully put it "This is a time/season for everything". Important to relax and unwind when our body pleads rest. After long I decided to give in to my body's plea and surrendered myself to a session of pampering, with every nerve in my body put to ease when i checked into the Club One Spa at The Suryaa The entrance The entrance seemed to have just the right chi, with a pristine entrance with an urn of floating roses and wooden interiors with the aroma of ittar and soothing music transporting you to another place, albeit a Happy one. The yellow walls and chirpy staff further help alleviate the mood. While they have a wide variety of massages to choose from, I decided to try the special massage called Lomi Lomi. This one is for those who don't like too much pressure yet complete relaxation. My therapist used a magic portion of lavender, rose and olive oil and kneaded every muscle, making me forget every stress, inducing me to go with...

Happy Sandwich Day! (Nov 3rd)

Image
Did you know the National Sandwich Day is celebrated annually on November 3 rd to commemorate one of the most popular comfort foods of all time and the most popular lunch in USA! Legend has it that John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich invented it. A travel book titled Tour to London by Pierre Jean Grosley, explores the popular rumour that meat in bread sustained Lord Sandwich at the gambling table.  In India, while we don’t know the exact origin, the Portuguese are known to have brought the popular pav or soft bun to the shore, which popularized the idea of bread with filling. The coming of the British ofcourse made us adapt to the idea of fresh bread with a repertoire of food stuffing. Over time we have witnessed different forms of sandwiches with different fillings, to be enjoyed at different occasions, such as, picnics, tea-time, breakfast or dinner time. We don’t have to look far to see just how it has stood the test of time. Novelty Dairy & Stores in Jangpur...

A Charity Dinner like No Other at the Orient Express

Image
Trust the Taj group of Hotels to pull out all stops for a charity meal where all proceeds go to the Tata Memorial Hospital, more specifically to the children fighting malignancy. While their patrons across cities comprise of the most well heeled, they did not put any price to the memorable meal, instead encouraged all invitees to come together to celebrate the festival of giving and make a difference in whichever way to the lives of the young survivors. We were only to carry along our pan card and cheque book to validate the source of welfare. Quite rightfully. It was the perfect Diwali Eve celebration with Chef Mathew Varghese from the Orient Express at the Taj Diplomatic Enclave and his team presenting the most outstanding menu designed for the guests. Starting with the mushroom cappuccino with truffle foam to the roast New Zealand lamb and the cheese soufflé, it was divine in every way; be it texture, taste or presentation. The hotel sure played its part in being t...

The Turkey Project- Where Passion meets Palate

Image
The new casual American-Italian hot spot, located in Defence Colony, reflects the exuberance and  raring-to-go vibe of the young twenty something Chef at the helm. No wonder then straight from the ambience to the food, it has a refreshing effect, and you are drawn into over indulging the child within. With wood finish, straight lines and greenery by way of potted plants and vine creepers, you are enveloped in a warm, easy-going bonhomie. A perfect environment to catch up with friends or bond with family away from the rut. Chef Kabir Chugh says, "I like to experiment and recreate the universal favourites, however everything has got to be tasty and done right, I was fed up of eating in dark dingy places food I could not really make out, served in toy trains and what not. Here you'd get a hot dog or a pizza just how it is supposed to be, with all the flavours minus any fuss." The Turkey, bacon and ham pizza had me devouring it. On the menu, you'd find it unde...

Mambo Italiano...at Hyatt Delhi

Image
La Piazza at Hyatt Regency, used to be my favourite Italian destination in Delhi. A visit after long made me rethink my once crazed love for the place, though I'd still say it is one of the better options.  It was  a pleasant experience with great choice, considering after the salad and dessert option, we did not even feel the need to order a main course as the salad bar had a whole meat section, along with a wide variety of cheese and pies, not to forget a pesto farfelle pasta that completed my wish list. The smoked fungi and tenderloin meatballs have my vote. My only apprehension being that the enticing bread basket was not as fresh as it looked. And what killed the otherwise great meal was the tiramisu. The tiramisu was overly sweet and was more of a custard with coffee sprinkled atop.  Something you wouldn't expect from an Italian place known for its high standards. I do remember my best memory of La Piazza being the wood fired pizzas. Maybe they con...
